Two Factor Authentication (2FA)

2FA is a common security measure in the Digital Asset ecosystem. Its purpose is to provide an unique and short lived code that you will use to verify that you are the identity you claim to be. This is an additional layer of protection in case your user name and password is compromised. Any thief would also need to have physical access to your mobile device in order to access your Luxolo account. As a side note, we strongly encourage you to implement a screen-lock on your device, either with a pin number or biometric scanning. Although these measures are not 100% foolproof, they exponentially increase your protection.

The two most common authenticator tools are Google’s Authenticator (GA) and Twilio’s Authy (TA). These are mobile apps only, not available on desktop devices. Within the app you will need to create a Luxolo account. This is easily done by hitting the “+” icon in GA and the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of TA, then selecting “Add Account.” You can create new accounts two ways: with a QR code or a manual entry key.

QR

Simply scan the QR code that is presented during the initial Luxolo account creation process. The authenticator app will recognize the key. GA will instantly create the account and begin displaying the unique and rapidly expiring codes. TA will require you to attach an icon and a nickname to the account. The icon can be generic or specific. To use the specific icon, Luxolo’s logo, enter “Luxolo” in the search bar. You should see our sailboat, select that, and then provide a nickname, whcih can be whatever you like but for simplicity you may name it “Luxolo.” These accounts will generate a new code every 15-30 seconds; each authenticator has its own time frame.

Manual Entry

If you are unable to scan the QR code, or if you are trying to create your Luxolo account on the same mobile device that your authenticator app is on, then you may click the “Show Code” link directly under the image of the QR code. You will need to copy this code to your device clipboard. When you first begin to create an account in the authenticator apps, the default method is scanning the QR code but there is a manual entry method as well. Select that and then paste the key into the field to continue. At this point GA is finished and TA will ask for the nickname and icon.

There are several instances when you will need to use your 2FA code to verify actions within the Luxolo app. If you are using the same device for both apps you will need to become adept at switching between active apps on your device quickly, as you only have a short time to enter the valid code. You will need to use 2FA when logging in, purchasing crypto, sending crypto, and withdrawing dollars. Although this does take some practice, it is well worth the effort.
